Kazakhstan Peoples Unity Day 2016

Date:
Sunday, May 1, 2016

On May 1, the Republic of Kazakhstan celebrates Kazakhstan People's Unity Day.

It replaced International Workers' Day which was celebrated in Kazakhstan during the Soviet era.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many post-Soviet countries continued to hold parades and other celebrations on May 1, but changed the holiday's name.

In Kazakhstan it was renamed to Kazakhstan People's Unity Day.

The corresponding decree was signed in 1995, and the first official celebration took place on May 1, 1996.

The Republic of Kazakhstan is a multinational country, it is home for about 150 nations and nationalities.

Unity Day in Kazakhstan focuses on uniting all the ethnic groups that reside on the territory of the country and promoting mutual understanding and cultural dialogue.
